I don’t believe in cutting down trees to make my art. I like to find wood from previously fallen trees or trees that have needed to be cut down due to dangerous circumstances. My works are keeping these beautiful trees stories alive, keeping a record of the life they lived.
Over the last 200 years, human activities have tipped the scales against the survival of these ancient mariners. Slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin, and shells, sea turtles suffer from poaching and over-exploitation. If this continues, sea turtles may no longer exist at all. I created this print as a symbol to put an emphasis on how close these animals timelines are to ending. And if we don’t start doing something about it, we are going to have to explain to the next generation what a turtle was and why they no longer exist, rather then be able to show them these magnificent creatures.
